FIGHT PREVIEW: UFC 163

UFC 163 is going down in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil this Saturday August 3rd at the HSBC arena. Home native Jose Aldo defends his feather weight strap in the main event. MMA seems to be making it be down in Brazil and the UFC is churning out the events to satisfy demand. This card is loaded with talent so lets break down the main card.

Jose Aldo vs Chan Sung Jung

The 145 pound kingpin Jose Aldo looks to defend his belt for the 7th time and take out one of the UFCs top featherweights the Korean Zombie Chan Sung Jung. Jose Aldo has only one loss in 23 fights and that lone loss was 8 years ago. Can he take the torch of the top Brazilian fighter on the planet after Anderson Silva was knocked out at UFC 162? Quite possibly. Aldo has been extremely dominant in his WEC/UFC career, only showing that he is human in the last round against Mark Hominick as well as in the Frankie Edgar fight. Can the Korean Zombie exploit something in the champions game? Probably not, Aldo has the much better overall stand up game, with some of the most viscous low kicks around and his take down defines is top notch. THe longer the fight goes the more damage the Zombie is going to take. I see a finish from the champ. Aldo by TKO: Round 3

Lyoto Machida vs Phil Davis

A pivotal match up at light heavy weight, could see the winner getting a title shot at 205. Lyoto Machida puts his karate to the test against stand out wrestler Phil Davis. Can Davis figure out a way to time Machidas movements and get the fight to the ground, where Phil is likely to dominant? He has the wrestling and the athleticism to do it, but there is no other fighter who flights like Machidas in the UFC, and must be almost impossible to replicate in training. I can see Davis getting Machida down at some point but I don't see him finishing the former champion. I see Machida picking away at Davis with punches and kicks, and getting another crack at Jon Jones, or a first crack at Alexander Gustafsson. Machida by Unanimous Decision.

Cezar Ferreria vs Tom Watson

One of the original Ultimate Fighter Brazil winners Cezar Ferreria will get his second chance to fight for the UFC, as he has been plagued by injuries since winning the reality show. Standing in Ferreras way is fellow Brazilian and octagon newcomer Thiago Santos. Santos comes in as a replacement for the injured Clint Hester. Not much is known about Santos, expect that he has a solid record and is Brazilian. He is fighting above his weight class, so look for the much bigger Ferreria to muscle his opponent to the cage and take him down. Cezar show cased a solid submission game on the reality show, and would love to show off his skills again, in his native Brazil. Ferreria by Submission 2nd Round.

Thales Leites vs Tom Watson

Former middle weight title challenger Thales Leites makes his retun to the UFC after compiling a 6-1 record outside of the promotion. The talented grappler has to deal with the hard hitting Tom Watson from the UK. On paper this seems like a typical striker vs wrestler match up. Thales will no doubt want to get the fight to the ground, and employ his jiu jitsu on Watson but Thales isn't the strongest wrestler and will have to win at least one striking exchange to get in deep on Watson. Can Watson keep the Brazilian off of him and score with punching combinations and kicks? I see him being somewhat successful at this, but Thales will most likely find a way to drag Tom to the ground each round and win the fight. Leites by Unanimous Decision.

FIGHT PREVIEW: UFC 156

UFC 155 goes down this Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Events Centre in Las Vegas, Nevada. The featherweight world title is up for grabs. Challenger Frankie Edgar drops down a weight class to take on Champion Jose Aldo. Another big match up on the card include the co-main event in which Rashad Evans faces Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. UFC 155 also sees the return of Alistair Overeem, as he faces Antonio Silva in a heavyweight clash that could have world title implications. An interesting match up between jiu jitsu wizard Demian Maia, against the re-surging Jon Fitch in a welter weight showdown is also taking place.

Jose Aldo vs Frankie Edgar

Franke Edgar drops down to his natural weight class for the first time in his career, after achieving a great amount of success in the lightweight division. I wouldn't expect Frankie to show any ill effects after making the weight cut, perhaps he will be even faster if thats possible. How will Jose Also handle the speed of Edgar? That is going to be the deciding factor in the fight. Even though Frankie is dropping down a weight class, he is still the smaller athlete. Jose Aldo is a beast, and has a huge advantage when it comes to power. I would expect Jose to be able to get back to his feet after Edgar scores a quick takedown, which will most likely happen early and often. Can Frankie use his speed and boxing skills to out strike the champ. Jose Aldos leg kicks could be the deciding factor for an Aldo victory. Landing a couple of low kicks every round should slow down the challenger and see the title remain in the Brazilians hands.

Rashad Evans vs Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

The former champ Rashad Evans is back in action after his failed bid to reclaim his title. He has a tough opponent in Rogerio Nogueira who is a name that is always mentioned as a top contender, but always seems to never get right to the top. The winner of this bout doesn't secure a title shot by any means, but could potential be only one more big win away from such a shot. Rashad is the more explosive athlete out of the two, and has a big advantage in the wrestling department. Who is the better striker? I think Rashad will be able to out strike little Nog, while mixing in his wrestling skills to get the decision. I cant see Nogueira getting anything going off of his back, and his solid boxing skills will not be enough on the feet to handle Rashad.

Alistair Overeem vs Antonio Silva

The Reem makes his glorious return after a drug suspension and faces a dangerous opponent in Antonio Silva. The winner is probably in line for a title shot later in the year, if all the star aline for them. Both fighters are big powerful men with KO power. Alistair, has the better striking technique as far as over stand up skills are concerned, and Big Foot has the better submission skills. If the stays on the feet, which it probably will then Alistair has a very good chance of knocking out Big Foot. Overeems chin hasnt really been tested since he moved up to heavyweight and has been knocked out 6 times as a light heavyweight. Silva could be the guy to test it with his big hands if the fight gets sloppy. I see the Reem taking this one and getting a shot at Cain later in the year.

Jon Fitch vs Demian Maia

A very interesting welterweight match between Jon Fitch and Demian Maia takes place on the main card. Demian Maia, may have the best jiu jitsu in all of mma and hasn't missed a step since dropping to welterweight. Jon Fitch wins fights by grinding down his opponents, and wearing them down. Most likely Fitch will get the fight to mat, and control the fight, while doing just enough damage to not get stood up. Can Maia, get his jiu jitsu going against a Fitch who is a black belt himself? Its possible, as Fitch regularly finds himself in deep submissions, but always seems to find a way out and then win the fight. This fight could end up being fight of the night between two highly skilled grapplers. Im hopping for a Maia submission win, but Fitch usually finds a way to win fights.

A special shout out to Kimuarwear team member Dustin Kimura who is making his UFC debut. The sky is the limit for his youngster and we will be rooting for him to come with the victory!

SHANE CAMPBELL WINS SECOND MMA TITLE

#

Shane "Shaolin" Campbell has been fighting since he was eighteen years old. Since that time he has proven to be a top level competitor in both muay thai and MMA. Could he be the next big thing in the lightweight division in both the Canadian and International Fight scene. He just won the AFC lightweight title and recently got from Brazil training with Jose Also! Things are on the up and up.

Campbell received an invitation from Nova Unaio founder Andre Pederneiras, to come down to the teams main training facility in Rio de Janerio and train with UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo in preparation for an upcoming title defense against Frankie Edgar. Unfortunately the bout against Frankie Edgar never came to fruition because of an injury to Aldo, but Shane was still able to train with some of the best MMA fighters in the world at Nova Unaio.

How does a small town Canadian boy get invited to one of the top MMA camps in the world? In simple words, HE WINS! Shane fought his first professional muay thai fight at 18. Over the next 3 years shane would win multiple amateur and professional titles in the art of eight limbs. His biggest win came against top light weight fighter Chris Nibimbi. With the victory Cambell won the vacant W.K.A super middle weight title.

After compiling an impressive muay thai record of over 40 victories, Shane turned his attention to the popular sport of mixed martial arts. Fighting in the Canadian scene in both Alberta and Ontario, Shane would test his skills some Canada s up and comers. With several victories under his belt, Campbell moved up a weight calls to challenge for the Unified MMA welter weight strap. In the second round Shane was able to use some of his new found grappling skills to lock on on choke and win the title. This was the first of two MMA titles that the Canadian would win in 2012. Campbell would face and defeat Stephen Beaumonts at AFC 14 and win the lightweight title. Kimurawear was proud to sponsor Shane for this important fight and look forward to working with him in the future

With his impressive resume its no secret as to why Shane's skills caught the attention of mma power house, Nova Unaio. Perhaps another trip to Brazil is the future for Mr. Campbell and bigger things in the sport of MMA.
